SHKP Chinese New Year Lunch for 2,000 Elderly
Lucky Bags delivered to the Seniors

Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) held a 150-table lunch for the elderly recently to celebrate Chinese New Year as part of its Building Homes with Heart Caring Initiative. In addition, the SHKP Volunteer Team delivered 5,000 lucky bags during this lunch and home visits to elderly around Hong Kong.
Celebrating with centenarians
SHKP treated Yuen Long and Eastern District seniors to Chinese New Year lunches last year, and this year hosted nearly 2,000 elderly people from Kwun Tong and Kwai Tsing. The oldest one there was 102. The lunch was organized by six Kwun Tong and Kwai Tsing District Elderly Community Centres, Social Welfare Department District Social Welfare Offices and the SHKP Volunteer Team, with the support of the Kwun Tong and Kwai Tsing District Councils and Offices.
Community effort
Guests included Director of Social Welfare Patrick Nip, SHKP Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer Patrick Chan, Kwai Tsing District Council Chairman Fong Ping, Kwun Tong District Council Chairman Chan Chung-bun and District Office and District Elderly Community Centre representatives. Patrick Nip said: “The government allocates resources to provide for seniors, looks for ways to enhance elderly service and encourages different sectors to take part to cope with the changing needs of the community. This event is a good example of collaboration between businesses, government and non-governmental organizations to care for the elderly in Kwun Tong and Kwai Tsing.”
Encouraging staff to volunteer
Patrick Chan said: “SHKP supports a wide range of charitable projects and encourages staff to volunteer for the rewarding experience of helping others. Over a hundred SHKP volunteers are here for this event, and they have also visited needy seniors within the districts to celebrate the most important festival in Chinese culture and spread happiness.”
Meeting community needs
The Group's new 'Building Homes with Heart' Caring Initiative provides timely, short-term assistance to families in difficulty as a result of accidents or natural disasters and involves SHKP volunteers using their professional skills to do basic repairs and maintenance for the disadvantaged.
