Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) has topped the latest corporate governance poll conducted by the noted international financial magazine Asiamoney. Among the 11 honours was the top ranking for Corporate Governance in Hong Kong and Asia for the fourth year running. The accolades recognize SHKP's high standards of corporate governance and show the trust placed in it by the investment community.
The 2008 poll asked senior executives, fund managers, researchers and analysts from over a hundred fund-management companies and brokerages in the Asia-Pacific region to rate 388 companies in Asia (ex-Japan) on disclosure and transparency, shareholders' rights and equitable treatment, responsibilities of management and board of directors and investor relations. SHKP came out top, ranking Best for Corporate Governance in Hong Kong and Asia, Best for Disclosure and Transparency, Best for Responsibilities of Management and Board of Directors, Best for Shareholders' Rights and Equitable Treatment and Best for Investor Relations in Asia and Hong Kong, plus Best Investor Relations Officer in Hong Kong.
SHKP Vice Chairman and Managing Director Raymond Kwok was pleased with the stellar showing. He said: "We put a priority on maintaining high standards of corporate governance. We have an effective board and excellent management, plus various committees and sound internal controls and decision-making mechanisms that enable SHKP to practice good governance in all areas. The timely disclosure of information facilitates communication with investors and the market, and boosts transparency. We will continue to lead with high standards of corporate governance and raising our competitiveness in the best interest of the company and shareholders."
